Review on Stainless Phillips Screw Bolt Dropper by Gary Stringfield

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is what can be used on the salty coast.

Cannot praise the seller enough. My order appeared to arrive promptly even though I'm in a somewhat remote area which usually takes an extra day to arrive and we got the screws the same day. They are made of 304 stainless steel and over time I've learned to come to terms with the fact that this is a fairly soft alloy. Keep this in mind when attaching metal parts to wood as the threads are not strong enough to cut a pre-drilled hole smaller than the screw shank. The threads at the top do not touch and are simply rounded. The soft qualities of these high-quality stainless steel screws are rounded out in the Phillips head too, so use a good fresh bit in your screwdriver and pre-drill the hole in the wood. I'm not sure if 316 or 410 stainless steel is better in terms of hardness, so this is probably the best route for salty climes. In fact, we've switched to 100% stainless steel for all exterior fasteners on all construction projects here on the Washington coast. 304 is a good compromise between 410 and 316, but expect rust color stains to last for decades. We use 316 exterior nails and do the same with screws when we find the right ones.
