I've been looking for a faster storage/raid solution for my photography and HD video hobbies for a long time. My existing raid was a NetGear NAS with RAID5 over Fast Ethernet - the fastest at the time, but overgrown. After looking at many solutions from NetGear, Drobo, etc., I settled on Thunderbolt 2 based OWC cases which are best for my needs. I was planning to use the built in RAID support on my Mac (Disk Utility) but read a review (link somewhere on OWC) about SoftRAID - installed a trial license and after a few performance tests I was hooked. I bought the software a few days before the trial license expired. Some complain about the price, I think it's worth every dollar. Some observations after a month of use: * Like the speed, can't get enough of it. * Hard drive recovery takes some time (1/2 day) but setup can be used - yes I added my old NetGear 2T hard drives; I suspected that one of the drives was about to set before sunset and the software was quick to point that out (grr). to do some fun trading between SoftRAID and the utility, so I pretty much move all my drives to the SoftRAID software. After that, the project will run software tests with an OWC Thunderbay 2 Mini loaded with SDD.
