Review on BESENERGY Level 2 J1772 EV Charger 27ft Home 220V-240V IP65 10/16A Portable Charging Station Compatible with All Electric Vehicles (EVs) by Wayne Drakh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not too small. Not too big. It's just the right size. Much better than I was hoping for

The 'charger' that came with my Kia Niro EV is absolutely useless. After about an hour of driving, it takes almost a full 24-hour work day to charge a car battery. It's useless, especially when you're on the road and want to charge your car at a relative's. I bought a 32 amp 220 volt charging box that recharges the car for an hour or two after my boring day. driving, but it draws more electricity than the solar panels in my house can supply - even on hazy sunny days. I needed something in between and the BESENERGY charging cable went very well with it. Considering the price my expectations were low but the quality was high. I can plug it into a regular 20 amp 110 volt household outlet or into the 20 amp 220 volt outlet that many window air conditioners use. I installed both in my garage. Here are the output options I have now: Unusable Kia charger 110 volts [12 amps] 1.4kW (can be set to less but why bother?) BESENERGY EV charger 110 volts [10 amps] 1, 1 kWh (useless) 110 volt [16 amp] BESENERGY EV charger 1.8 kWh 220 volt [10 amp] BESENERGY EV charger 2.2 kWh 220 volt [16 amp] BESENERGY EV charger 3.6 kWh Jekayla EV- Charger, 220 volts [32 amps] 7.2 kWh (can deliver 40 amps - 9.6 kWh but car only accepts 32 amps) There are a few things that BESENERGY would do better: 1> The instruction manual is pretty bad and the Pictures do not match the real device, had to do a lot of poking around to find a button that can be pressed to toggle between 10 and 16 amps. The button turned out to be what I thought was a logo, and it has no tactile feel or sound when you finally find it and press it. (see image) A real push button would be better - perhaps coupled with an LED showing 10 amps versus 16 amps. plug.4> An on/off switch would be nice, but I've never seen one on a charging cable. Kia, and probably all EVs, will block the J1772 connector in the car while charging, and if the door is locked and you don't have the remote app, there's no easy way to stop charging or disconnect the charging cable without unplug the charger. from a wall outlet.5> In addition to a 110 volt household plug adapter, an adapter to connect to the 110 volt outlets you'll find in RV sites would be a good option, although available for an additional but reasonable price.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • not bad
