Thanks to this sharpening stone and YouTube sharpening video, this newbie can now get my knives sharp enough that I can easily cut paper when testing before use. I've tried sharpening them with a belt sander and bench grinder in the past with very limited success, and have also lost a lot of metal from the blades unnecessarily. The rubber base under the bamboo holder proved very comfortable and kept the stone from sliding on my kitchen countertop during the sharpening process - a very useful feature.
