Review on 🔧 Gates T43094 PowerGrip Premium Timing Belt Tensioner: Superior Performance and Durability by Dante Obong

This would work fine initially, but the piston is too short

I have a 94 Trooper with a 3.2 v6 engine. That would work fine initially, but the plunger is too short. I don't think the block is to blame. I think it will work with the old idler pulley. It's only 1/16 inch shorter, but that's enough to cause belt slap. I think the new belts are a lot thinner and the changes Isuzu made a few years ago removed the actual mechanical adjustment in the tension system. I was able to modify this tensioner by extending the holes from the piston end and JB welding the hole about 3/32 back from the original position. Works like a champ. (By the way, the only other tensioner cylinder 43093 is shorter and can't be made to work without opening the holes. This will work on most engines anyway, but don't be surprised if you don't get tick-tick all the time - tick, that sounds like a bad valve lifter. Even if it's weak it will cause the belt to slap and you'll lose miles. Once adjusted the engine is very quiet and goes a few mpg more. So I can't blame that block. That and all others too. If they added another 1/4 life to the piston it would be ideal.
