Good choice for the price. The tube is different than the clear vinyl I'm used to working with. It's opaque. I thought it might be silicone but it's a slightly harder plastic. I always thought the purpose of the check valves was to prevent water from entering the air pump and I usually placed them near the line from the pump. With this setup, remember to place check valves above and above the bottom of the tank. This hose tends to pop out from time to time before it is firmly seated. Difficult to move it more than half way up before it bends. I wouldn't use lube. On my traditional setup, the hose popped out of the check valve on the tank side, pumping 20 gallons out of our 55 gallon tank in the middle of the night! Even with the addition of flapper valves there shouldn't be a problem unless the check valve is installed well below the waterline like I've done now.
