Great gravel filter system for my daughter's beta. Used in a 1.5 gallon tank. Many have reported cloudy or gray water. This type of filter must be flushed thoroughly before adding it to the system, otherwise it will. All new items should be flushed before adding to the aquarium. The only issue we had was that the bladder tube that the filter sits on was a bit high for our tank, but it's easy to trim and there you go! Also a note for new fish owners. The gravel still needs to be cleaned regularly. A mini siphon vacuum cleaner does its job, literally sucking dirt out of the gravel, which is then collected in a bucket and disposed of. It doesn't suck up gravel, it just disturbs it, allowing debris to be lifted and the pipe to be fed out. Hope that helps!
