Review on Norpro 9-Piece Cupcake Injector and Decorating Icing Set by Michael Custodio

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A better design would have given it 4 stars, including the default tips it would have gotten 5 stars.

For the price it's ok for decorating and applying thin glaze. However, many things could have been better. The outside diameter of the piston is only slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the cylinder, allowing about 15% of the frost to seep past the piston. With a slight flare and a slightly larger OD than the ID of the barrel, this might even be better than a "professional" stainless steel set as the barrel is transparent and easy to mark at the desired pitch. For example, my cylinder is divided into about 14 segments, each producing the same amount of cupcake frosting. The included bits are branded, seal the flange rather than the cone as is the case with what I consider "standard" decorating tips, and they do not fit standard conical tips. Also, the contours of the included tips are not only less precise than metal tips, but also contain mold burrs, so some will need to be reground with a sharp knife to avoid uneven patterns. functioning of the injector; For decoration, I would suggest a design that uses metal tips, like the traditional pastry bag. It's easy to disassemble and clean, which is a good thing as backflow around the smaller piston means this has to be done every time you fill up. Suggestion: Air-free filling is best done in a traditional piping bag with a large round tip to minimize voids.
