It's definitely worth it!

I brought the Gourmet Tool Whetstone Knife Sharpener - 1000/6000 Knife Sharpener - Waterstone Grit with non-slip bamboo base, leveling stone and angled guide because it set it apart from the competition. It has received great reviews from previous customers who have used and loved it. So I brought it with me. I received the stone set from Amazon and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by the professionalism of the packaging and the care that went into putting this product together. It was top notch! In the box was a beautifully written manual. A sharpening stone with a 1000 grit side paired with a 6000 grit side. The stone is placed in the included rubber base and then inserted into the beautiful bamboo base. There were two other things I wasn't sure about. I learned this by reading the instructions, about the corner guide and the leveling/cleaning stone. I read the instructions which contained everything I needed to know to get started. I went through my kitchen knife box, which was a graveyard formed over years of dull knives. First I started with the most battered knife I could find so I could practice well. The instructions said that the angle guide was for practice and could scratch good knives. So I used the angle guide on this knife because it was a good practice knife. I think I had to run the knife through page 1000 about 30 times on each side. It was more than what the instructions said but I understand every knife is different and the process was really enjoyable so I didn't mind. I then switched to the 6000 grit side and ran the knife over the 6000 grit side probably as many times. Then I removed the guide. I didn't notice any scratches, but it was better to play it safe and practice on this knife. Now the moment of truth has come for me. Did this whole process work? I took a lemon out of the fridge and put the knife down to taste. I could cut it with ease, like a new razor. I then took a tomato and was able to slice it thinly. This knife has never cut mushrooms! I was impressed with the knife and my new knife sharpening skills. After getting used to the process with my other knives. I removed the corner guide and was able to sharpen my better knives without it. All knives had the same result! After sharpening some of my knives. I took out the small white stone that comes with this kit and leveled and cleaned the whetstone to remove dirt and level it. This started my stone looking like new again. Overall I am completely satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants to take the time to look after their knives. Pros: Suitable for those who are good at working with their hands. everything you need to get started. A professional stone is very attractive at a great price. Supplied with leveling stone. No oil is needed, just use water. Cons: Bamboo base needs to be dried after use. If you don't dry the wood, it will become moldy. You have to be careful with the corner guide as it can scratch the knives (read the instructions). If your knives are too dull, 1000 grit might not be the best place to start. Maybe buy a 240/800 grit stone before moving on to 1000 grit, which can be difficult for those who are not good with their hands. Overall, I definitely recommend sharpening your knives with a stone. The whole process is very zen and therapeutic for me. Certainly better than those cheap sharpeners that ruin knives. You can take your knives to a professional and have them sharpened, but it's expensive and time-consuming. You can also get something mechanical like a spinning wheel but who wants that in their house unless they have a big workshop, I don't see any practical use in it. This makes this set the perfect knife sharpening set. I can't see a better way!
