Good bar for beginners

For the price, this is a great whetstone for beginners in the art (and I mean the art) of knife sharpening. It takes time and patience to get a knife razor sharp, especially when it's really dull. This stone works very well and has two grits that give great results. The product arrived well packaged, no damage. A few tips to keep in mind: 1. Watch videos online to learn the technique2. Soak the stone in water for several hours, and then drip water on it while using3. The guide is a great tool…

does what it says

I got this last summer to sharpen all of my knives in my commercial kitchen and learn a new and useful skill. At first I used the instructions but then I just became handy using various techniques I found on the internet. My knives were DULL. The edges of most were gone, and there were many gaps in the edges. The first sharpening of the blades took a long time. But now a few hits on the fine grit either way and they're sharpened straight up. Note that using a wet stone is not the quickest way…

Great whetstone and easy to use.

Very happy with it as I love to cook but have never had sharp knives. I decided to try this stone and I'm not a pro yet, but the knives I've sharpened so far are much better. It is actually very interesting to learn how to use this stone. I look forward to trying it out on my scissors and perfecting my craft. I love the quality of this stone and would recommend it to family and friends. I didn't know it was a small family business but I was very impressed when I received a 'handwritten' thank…

Great tool for the undecided beginner

I have had a great Wusthof knife set for over two decades and sent it in to be sharpened because I was afraid of damaging it sharpening at home. I finally broke down and started looking for whetstones on Revain and was ready to buy another brand's product when I saw a review from someone who suggested a reader to consider this one. He said the price was better and that it came with instructions to keep the knife at the right angle - the only thing I was afraid of screwing up. I'm glad I…

Cons
  • Lots of stuff

I bought a sink bridge so I used the rectangular wood fixture that came with the stone, not used. I've been sharpening stones for many years so I don't use a guide. I've only used the stone twice, so at this point I have no reason to use the leveling stone that comes with the kit. After all these limitations I have to say that I am satisfied with this stone. A few strokes on each side of the blade at 1000 grit, then 5-6 at 6000 grit will result in a very sharp knife. FWIW, I've found that the…

Great kit! Works for noobs like me

This is great. Got this after our electric sharpener finally died and it makes our knives so much sharper. My wife accidentally removed the stone without drying it and it doesn't seem to wear any worse. I've used it probably 20-30 times at this point and really don't see the stone wearing much. I think I will use it in 10 years. The grip is really good and prevents it from slipping around the counter. I also like the instructions as they help you get a feel for the right angle at which to hold…

Can make a very sharp knife

A whetstone can probably make a knife sharper than you've ever seen it in person, but it takes a little time to learn how to do it right. If you don't have the patience and just want to swipe your knives through something a few times and hope for the best, this probably isn't for you. But if you hate dull knives and are willing to watch a few videos to get the hang of it, your knives can be as good as new (or even better) and a lot sharper than the stupid things you drag your knife through…

It's definitely worth it!

I brought the Gourmet Tool Whetstone Knife Sharpener - 1000/6000 Knife Sharpener - Waterstone Grit with non-slip bamboo base, leveling stone and angled guide because it set it apart from the competition. It has received great reviews from previous customers who have used and loved it. So I brought it with me. I received the stone set from Amazon and I have to say I was absolutely blown away by the professionalism of the packaging and the care that went into putting this product together. It was
