What should have taken half an hour turned into a three hour job due to a very cheap and fragile wire. If you try to crimp the butt connector it just breaks. If you try soldering, you'll find that the individual wires used are thinner than a human hair and will break just by twisting them. Even trying to remove the insulation will break many wires that are too thin. The result is poor connections (see image) that do not provide full voltage to the lights. I very carefully connected the best wires and finally got them to work. When I wrote to the company they offered to send me a new kit so apparently they didn't read what I was asking about. No response when I asked if they had a set with better wires.
