Review on ROCKLER 865042 Drawer Slide Blue by Mike Quade

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Surprisingly useless

I bought these from Rockler last year based on videos and positive reviews. This looks like a great idea and design as shown in the demo. I took it apart today to use it for the first time and was very surprised that if it doesn't live up to its specific marketing promises, it's not worth using for a number of reasons: 1) It's ridiculously unconventional. The length of the brace is less than a foot, that's about 3/32 of an inch! I bought a disposable combo square that puts it to shame with its squareness and it's a one piece molding! This is so wrong for so many reasons. You just can't afford to have your work that far away and it's so unnecessary. Give it the shape of a square - how difficult can that be? To use it, make it out of plastic that won't randomly deform without pressure. 2) You can see in the video that it clamps slightly and maybe it will get easier with time, but the clamping surfaces are so far inside and right behind your hand while you hold it I think even with the same clamp used in the As shown in the video (Kreg Pocket Hole Auto-Adjust), it was a clunky, clumsy affair that I don't even want to repeat, let alone need 2 times the boxes. The chances that you can hold it in the desired vertical position while applying the clamp are nil. I know Rockler isn't Woodpecker or Festool, but I think they should be reliable mid-range tool suppliers. I really like the cookie bank. But that is an absolutely unforgivable waste of money and on that basis I will not order anything from Rockler that I cannot carefully inspect or test. I see this listing is 80% overpriced compared to retail price at rocker shops or other listings here at Revain. This will be the first or second review from the US out of 200. Obviously this is a listing meant for UK customers or something. and possibly an exchange rate plus a shipping account for the price difference. But if these mostly positive reviews (the first one is enthusiastic but then mentions that they haven't used it yet, so..) are true, then they have a much better device than mine, in this case the production variability makes the purchase same as doubtful

Pros
  • Adjustable split leg for perfect repeatability
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
