UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW TWO YEARS AGO: I already discussed the problem with this product at length in my review from two years ago, which you can read after this update: specifically the lack of sufficient vertical clearance to remove and replace you CDs when you stack two or more of these storage boxes on top of each other. The solution I just recently discovered is so simple and obvious that I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Instead of stacking the storage boxes like usual with the magnetic flap door on the front, I turned them so the back of the box was down and the door leaf was up and then stacked the boxes like that. as tall as I want (four tall is the limit for where I keep it under my desk). This frees up over half an inch of space above the CDs so I can now easily remove and replace CDs and make room for those oversized vinyl copies of CDs and custom CD cases (including many box sets, although I keep my box). sets in another furniture storage rack). Now these storage boxes work great! Check out the new photos I've posted here, two of which show CDs that have been stored in the usual way (tight fit, with CD cases strewn on the floor in front of them that don't fit) and two that show showing alternative preservation and storage methods. stacking that I just described. I still think this product could benefit from a redesign, but now that I've figured out how best to use these boxes I'll be upgrading my rating from three to four stars. PREVIOUS REVIEW 30 AUGUST 2018: I gave this product a five star rating after purchasing over a dozen of these for my growing CD collection. But now that I've made serious use of them, I have some serious criticisms. I love the way they look, their modular design, solid construction and really good build quality. They are the right size to fit into tight spaces. When full they are still light enough to pick up and move around. But as some other reviewers point out, once you've folded them, you'll have a hard time getting the CDs out of the bottom drawers. When the top drawers in the stack are mostly empty. then there is enough vertical clearance to insert and extract standard jewel cases. But once the box is full, the bottom sags just enough to bottom out on top of the CD cases in the box, making it difficult to pull the cases out, to say the least. It almost doesn't work with standard jewel cases, but if you have a varied collection that includes multi-disc sets and odd-sized digipaks, or those mini LP replica covers that some specialty labels make, then CD- Covers just too well. . big enough to barely fit in these crates, and even if they barely fit in, once you have a crate full of CDs on them, the bottom sags and rests on the crates, making it impossible to get the CDs out. And I don't put these storage boxes at more than three heights. Another problem with unusually large CD cases, such. Some of the box set designs and mini LP covers, for example, is that they are also too wide and therefore the front cover will not stay closed and stay on. opens. So I tried different solutions to get these things working and it was difficult. To keep the front flaps closed I took some velcro stickers and glued them to the inside of the flap and that worked, but the glue on the stickers isn't strong enough to hold the faux leather material so they slide easily solve. Height wise, I stuck on some clear plastic velcro pads bought at the hardware store, and when the storage boxes were full, the weight of the CDs shrank so much that the plastic pads came loose. if the storage boxes are slightly offset. I then tried driving black upholstery nails into the bottom corners to lift the boxes from the top, but the nails were too slippery and so the boxes slid and slid instead of stacking neatly. So now I have to come up with another trick because I've already invested several hundred dollars to buy 17 of these and they are well made but not that well designed. My room doesn't have room for another large piece of media cabinet furniture, so these small storage boxes are just what I need. If only they were stacked on top of each other and had room to get CDs out of the lower storage boxes. IF THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS PRODUCT CAN SIMPLY ADD THE HEIGHT OF THESE BOXES A HALF TO THREE QUARTERS INCHES AND A QUARTER OR HALF AN INCH TO THE DEPTH THEN THEY BUDLLY PERFECTLY WORK PERFECTLY. But as it stands now I've spent so much money and so many hours getting these things to work that I don't know what to do next.
