NEW Susan Bates Hook

Susan Bates seems to have gone down the drain and the new manufacturer isn't bothering about keeping their good name. The finish of the new hooks is not smooth or even smooth so they don't slide through the yarn like the old ones. The ground part of the hook (the flat area under the hook) is linear, not smooth. This mainly affects his looks, not his performance, but still! If you have 3M polishing paper lying around at home (Volcano Arts sells a sample kit) you can buff your crochet hooks for a smoother finish. It doesn't look perfect (you can still see the deep scratches on the finish), but it lets the hook slide through the yarn much better. It took me less than 20 minutes to polish the hook with the following grits: 400, 600, 1200, 4000, 6000, 8000. Too bad the finish is so bad. Crocheting is a lot less fun if your tools are of poor quality.

Pros
  • Great Construction
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
