Review on πŸ’ͺ Dremel 569D Silver Grout Removal Bit - 1/16-Inch Diameter, High Efficiency by Vijin Wisniewski

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Effective but short lived

Like many other reviewers I found these bits effective at removing grout but their durability left a lot to be desired. I re-grouted in our small (3ft x 7ft) bathroom using 2-inch hexagonal tiles (i.e. lots of grout). The Dremel nozzle dips right into the grout and quickly removes it, at least when it's new. doesn't last very long. The problem I had wasn't so much with the bits breaking as with them dulling after moderate use. Once blunt, the bits will get caught in the grout and become more difficult to move. They also burn mortar (and heat up even more as a result). Everyone said I need three small bits (this one, 569D) and three large 1/8" bits (=$$$). One trick I used was to actually snap the pieces off of themselves. . I found the bit dulls towards the tip but still stays sharp further down. Using pliers I was able to snap off the blunt part and give the bit new life (albeit with less depth). Closer monitoring of the bit's angle helped prolong its life, but I was still disappointed at how much I put through with it.
