Review on AlphaTRAK 2 Blood Glucose Test Strips - 50 Count by Adam Johnson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Expensive and inconsistent results

These strips are overpriced and the results are far from reliable. I burn 3 strips way too many times to get ONE result. I keep getting crazy high or crazy low (sometimes both) readings on these strips so I then test a control solution which confirms accuracy, repeat the test on my asymptomatic dog and get a VERY different result - sometimes 300-400mg/day l. dL difference. Example - at 6:39 am I got a result of 753. I checked with the control and was within range. Repeated the test on my dog from a nearby location at the same sampling site at 6:43am and the result was 332. Not even in the same stadium. If this were an isolated incident, I'd rather blame the user. error or problem. This happened 12 times in 7 weeks. In one instance her glucose reading returned to 50, verified the calibration with a control test, repeated the test on my dog and the result was 397. Because the first reading was so low, I took her to the vet for confirmation. You got the result 233 about an hour after the original result. I had the exact same problem with 2 other sets of strips, only 1 bottle worked consistently. None of them had expired or were close to expiration. I'm not sure if the codes printed on the bottles are wrong or what, but the bottom line is there are serious quality control issues that could very easily cost the life of a beloved pet. AT2 until these issues are resolved. I used a FreeStyle human meter - it may not be accurate for pets (reads tend to be high), but I haven't had wild variance in the results and I can clearly see their glucose reading changing when applied.
