I have 3 strands of hair in my hair that I've had for 8, 6 and 4 years. My last hook broke after a few years of use (very sad because it was amazing and I couldn't find an exact replacement). I bought them because they come in two different sizes. These are definitely simple tools. I'd like the handles to have some sort of wood bulge or something on the side that the hook faces. So by working on yourself, you can easily tell which direction the hook is moving, rather than slowing down to pay attention to where the hook is. I've usually done the lock just by touch without a mirror, so it's quite difficult to do this without some kind of "sensor mark" showing the direction of the hook. The metal of the hooks is also a bit soft. My thickest lock is just over 1/4 inch thick and occasionally bends the metal. I use them every few months, I've had them for maybe 8 months now and they haven't broken yet!
