When you press this gadget directly on the cork, it will definitely press the cork into the bottle! The correct way to use this device is to wiggle it from side to side and slide one blade at a time further down the edge of the cork. Using the device with this technique, you will never push the cork into the bottle. In addition, many other reviewers complain about the snapping of the fingers. This won't happen if you lower the teeth (move side to side) almost to the level of the cork before you start twisting and pulling up on the handle. When removing the plug, do not pull the device straight up! To remove the cork correctly and easily, twist and pull up at the same time.
