When I bought the stand from Home Depot, the number of extra supports was different. After removing one from the end cap and realizing it would fit the rail, I immediately ordered two of these. I cut many different lengths and it becomes difficult to cut an inch of lumber from a 2 x 12 if 3 feet is not supported. They come in handy when you don't want to remove the supports from the extensions. It also helps keep the long shape from sagging and potentially changing the degree of trimming. My only issue with them is that the fence is only good for rough cutting as it can move up to 1/2 inch no matter how tight it is. The strength of the stops must also be checked from time to time, as they give way over time.
