I like to slip them between my hose and spray tip, most male and female garden hose ends are metal and female. Most spray tip ends are metal, sometimes they corrode each other and are almost impossible to unscrew. Sometimes this results in damage to the hose or spray tip. I buy these to slip one between the water valve or (bolt) and the female end of the water hose, and one between the male end of the water hose and the female end of the water nozzle or other hose nozzle. Didn't see them at our local hardware store, but I'm glad I found them on Revain.com.
