Review on πŸ” Wired Handheld USB Barcode Scanner 1D Bar Code Reader with USB Cable for Supermarket, Convenience Store, and Warehouse Use by Daniel Pesicek

Good first impression.

Let's deal with it first. You simply plug this device into a USB port and it will be recognized as a Human Interface Device (HID) like a keyboard. The barcode scanner simply reads and decodes the barcode and sends it to your computer as if you were typing information on a keyboard. You can already tell by looking at the hand that this device is an inexpensive barcode scanner. The plastic case is lightweight and lacks shock protection, so it probably won't hold up well in a typical store environment. The amazing thing is that it has a laser scanning engine. A few years ago, you would have had to pay at least ten times as much to get this feature. I guess some of the patents have expired and now a company in China is making laser scanning motors wholesale which really brought the price down. It comes out of the box to read all major barcodes and includes a programming guide so you can change the settings if needed. One issue with an inexpensive scanner like this is the longevity of the laser engine, which uses a vibrating mirror to move the laser beam across the barcode. At the moment I don't know how long this mechanism will work. But given the price, this scanner probably won't stand up to the abuse that a more expensive barcode scanner has developed for retail or warehouse use. Thus, contrary to the recommendations in the description, in my opinion this scanner is only suitable for simple tasks, such as B. an office, suitable. In my case it is used for exactly that. For something more reliable I recommend looking at CCD based scanners as the only moving part is the trigger.
