For about a year and a half he has served me regularly with full speed and decent reliability. After that, the connection began to disappear a couple of times a week. About a month later, the connection dropped several times a day. As I work online from home this was not acceptable. For some reason it kept dropping out during a conference call or in the middle of an important long-distance connection. Comcast/Xfinity sent out a tech as they didn't see any problems with the lines (although I don't appreciate their phone support as I kinda know more about it than they do). After he checked the line and pushed things outside, she came back to life, but after a week she started going haywire again. The second tech told me they are very sensitive to interference and become unreliable after a year or so. He gave me a Comcast (Cisco) modem and the line has been pretty stable ever since. I still give it 3 stars because it's paid for itself twice in a year and a half through savings on Comcast gear rentals, but it would have been 4 stars if he hadn't been so picky. Someone suggested wrapping it in aluminum but I don't want to bother with that. i buy a new one I'd say if your line is very reliable with good stable lines (at the time of writing this is definitely not the case in Comcast's Seattle area) this is a great value. Speed is what you pay for and paired with a good router has served me well. If your local ISP is using legacy lines (in your building or on their network), get something more reliable.
