Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Reliable Fluker's Heat Mat: Optimal Heating Solution for Reptiles and Small Animals by Carla Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great product but needs A LOT better product description with warranty information!

I ordered this for my redtail boa along with the Hydrofarm Jump Start Digital Heat Mat Temperature Controller. As other reviews have said there is no glue on these mats so you will need to tape them over with clear tape and give them some support from underneath to keep them pressed against the tank. I went and bought a sheet of 4 x 8 foot 3/4 inch thick styrofoam insulation at a hardware store and it works great; costs less than $10 and I loved it so much that I cut out another piece for my second snake tank. I cut the foam to fit the entire bottom of the tank, but only inside the bottom edge of the tank rims and with the shiny aluminum foil insulating surface to the tank. After I cut out the styrofoam, I put tape over the cuts to keep the styrofoam from peeling off. Styrofoam softens the tank and prevents heaters from damaging anything it rests on. Because there is a sheet of plastic on the opposite side of the styrofoam insulation, the tank can now be moved on the stand, but will not move easily enough to cause problems. My tank is 70 gallons, 17 x 11 inches, and it's very thin; about the lamination thickness of the plastic film. It covers the entire area of the snake's skin and then part of it. The molded electrical connector at one end of the mat is quite thick; Again, the styrofoam helped because I was able to hollow out the styrofoam to accommodate the connector. The description doesn't say the pad will heat up for a few hours, so plan for that. I was a bit concerned about this because I had just fed my snake and was taking advantage of its absence from the terrarium to set up a heating pad. However, it worked and together with the thermostat it usually keeps the temperature within 4 degrees. plus/minus degrees from where I set the thermostat (85 degrees Fahrenheit). Another brand of heating pad I've used in the past just didn't work; My snake wouldn't stay in its skin after eating and retched after two feedings before I switched to this setup. This could very well be because I haven't used a thermostat before, but having failed twice with this brand of heating pad I'm glad I switched to this setup. After two feedings I have no more problems with it and my snake loves being in its own skin. I would really like to give this product five stars; how it works now makes me and my snake very happy but the lack of information in the product description is worrying. Not only does the description mention the lack of glue and the need for a support under the tank, it also lacks warranty information for the product. Revain's solution is to provide a link where you can either look up the warranty information yourself on the manufacturer's page or email Revain customer service with any errors. Model Number, Full Product Name, Rank and Serial Number, Yadda, Yadda. Come on Raven! You already have this information, why not do the work for your customers and provide or have the manufacturer provide warranty information? The Fluker website is useless in this regard, you have to go through the email support cycle with them. over and over again to get somewhere; I'll update this review after researching this option, but it certainly makes you wonder why they're having such a hard time finding them. Compared to heating mats from other manufacturers, this product has a higher price; Providing warranty information would make me feel a lot better than enabling me to toss the dice and hope for the best.
