Great mat - you need glue and a thermostat!

Working great after a few weeks of use. I installed it on the side of the tank to keep my hermit crabs warm. I would never use a heater without a thermostat anyway, but this one seems to have enough power to get hot so make sure to keep an eye on the temperature and control it. For me the lack of glue is a big plus as it makes it easy to remove and reposition or place on another tank. I installed aluminum foil tape and insulated with aluminum foil and styrofoam for more efficient heating.

That works great. It has no sticky side

I use it in a long 20 gallon thermostatically controlled glass jar. That works great. It has no sticky side, it needs to be stuck with tape. The instructions say to use only clear tape, which I've done and so far so good. I liked this feature so it can be reused for other tanks if I decide to switch tanks. At first I was a bit confused because it's just a plastic wrap with a string attached. But don't let that confuse you. Good mat, heats up well and quickly. In combination with the thermostat…

NO PRIMARY HEAT SOURCE

I keep a young python in a 20 gallon terrarium and ordered a rug to match. It's worth it for what it is. He didn't overheat. But that can only be because it works via the thermostat. Without glue; which is actually positive. Removal is easy and messy when cleaning the case. I can highly recommend FOIL TAPE as an adhesive. It is heat resistant and clean. This mat will most likely only raise the "warming side" of your animals by a few degrees. You need another heat source, maybe an overhead…

Mixed feelings with sticky tape for 20 gallon tank

The pad itself seems good, doesn't seem to get as hot as my other sticky mats, watt for watt. I love the idea of moving or reusing it, but even with HVAC foil tape over the panel, the panel sags in the middle and I think some heat is lost here. On a 20 gallon tank it was very difficult to apply tape since the gasket is almost the same size as the glass between the frame. So using tape on a plastic frame on 2 sides is not as safe as we would like, on the unframed sides the tape works fine. All…

Reliable and Safe - Fish and Aquatic Animals

It does exactly what it's supposed to do and nothing else = perfect. I say this because I lowered the price and ordered a different brand for the other side of my 20-long for my leopard gecko, but this thing failed and got dangerously hot. This mat is glued to the bottom of my tank, then I use ceramic tiles inside the tank as the floor. The "hot spot" it creates does not exceed 104 degrees. I'm adding a thermostat to control fluctuations due to room temperature changes, but I'm not worried…

Great thermal mat! in Fish & Aquatic Animals

I did a lot of research before I bought this heating mat. I've been trying to raise the temperature in my hermit crab tank for the winter. I first bought an 11x11 mat thinking it would fit my 18x18x18 Exo Terra aquarium. However, this only increased the temperature by a few degrees, so I settled on an 11x17 mat, which kept the temperature at 80 the entire time. The reason I chose this mat was the ability to switch it between if needed moving around the tanks and seemed less flammable/melting. I

Will not work for hamsters in a wire cage.

We have a dwarf hamster that is kept in a room that gets cold especially at night. I noticed he was trying to hibernate despite having many places with 4 inch bedding. So I started looking for ways to keep him warm. Somewhere on the internet someone recommended a reptile heating mat for this purpose. It had good reviews and I decided to give it a try. I bought a small one first and attached it to the side of the cage. This should be fine if the hamster lives in a glass aquarium, but for a wire…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Compatibility

I ordered this for my redtail boa along with the Hydrofarm Jump Start Digital Heat Mat Temperature Controller. As other reviews have said there is no glue on these mats so you will need to tape them over with clear tape and give them some support from underneath to keep them pressed against the tank. I went and bought a sheet of 4 x 8 foot 3/4 inch thick styrofoam insulation at a hardware store and it works great; costs less than $10 and I loved it so much that I cut out another piece for my…
