Review on 🏒 M-D Building Products 8664 Adjustable Aluminum Threshold with Vinyl Seal - 36-Inch by Jason Ingram

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Hardware is absent but can be found in the "special " drawers at most hardware stores.

Unfortunately I bought two of these, both were missing all or most of the hardware. MD should pack them better. I couldn't wait for another replacement so I went to an old school hardware store. What you need: 4 "cage nuts" (used in IT to secure computer/network equipment in equipment racks), 4 pcs x 3/8" long set screws that have the same thread pitch as the cage nuts. A hex head enough, just use a hex wrench 4 x #10 x 2" screws to attach the sill to the sill plate. I also used balls of good silicone gasket to attach the base plate to the door sill panel. Also a tip for those who have complained about having to constantly tighten the rubber grommet to adjust the height of the sill - you probably cut the grommet when installing it. Threshold and leave a small piece - use the cut piece to adjust the height and check before installing the entire gasket. Much easier than installing and removing the rubber seal over and over again during the adjustment process. A wide flathead screwdriver will help press the gasket into place. The instructions state to leave a 1/4 inch gap between the top of the adjustable sill and the bottom of the door. I found that I had to make the gap a bit smaller to get a good seal. Overall, this is the best height adjustable threshold on the market. Mainly because it was the only adjustable sill I could find. It outperforms the old design MD products where you had to remove the entire sill to adjust the height (not good when it's caulked). It's great to be able to easily adjust the height in different parts of the sill, I chose the middle on the left due to the way the door or sill is cut a little higher. You just can't do it with non-adjustable thresholds.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Expensive
