I have several of these books. I bought all but two before Revain started selling them and they were a little cheaper. They are not transparent at all. They are thick and only printed on one side. I haven't had mine in a very long time so I just colored a few pages. These are great books and work with pencils and gel pens or whatever you choose to use. I haven't created any of my own, but you can certainly make it your choice.
