Review on πŸ” Optimized FRAM Extra Guard Air Filter CA9493 for Acura and Honda Vehicle Models by Trevor French

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Slightly different than picture

I got one like this for my 2006 Honda CRV. As can be seen in the picture, there is a metal mesh outside and inside the filter material. The one I got only has mesh on the inside. I'm assuming it's a design change. I'm not sure how this affects performance, if at all. It's nice to get a filter for less than $12 compared to replacing it and going to a dealer's labor. Watch on YouTube how easy it is to change the filter yourself and save a lot of money. After all, I drove 30,000 miles until I changed the filter according to the owner's manual. All I can say is that I should have ignored the manual and replaced it sooner. Let's say 15-20 thousand. The filter was dirty. I will replace it again in 15,000. UPDATE: 4/19/2014 Ordered another replacement filter today (yes my 2006 CR-V has 82,000 miles). Everything is as in the first review. No net outside. I'm wondering why Revain has been incorrectly showing this filter with a mesh on the outside for a number of years? However, when all is said and done. network or not. beats the price of a dealer install by doing it yourself. UPDATE: 10/22/2015 Another filter change for my 2006 CR-V (97k miles). The last batch of this filter I received has a metal mesh on the outside. I also see that it is made in the USA. The one he replaced without the outer metal grille was made in China. Both frames are both of the same model CA9493. The filters work great both with and without a grid. As usual, after 12-15 thousand kilometers the filter was clearly so dirty that it had to be replaced.
