Review on KYB 343412 Excel G Gas Shock by Trendsetters Hare

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The new rear shock absorbers did the trick. KYB seems like a decent brand and has good prices with positive reviews.

KYB REAR SHOCKS. Bought for Mazda5 2010 with 129,000 miles. There was a problem with the car "shaking" on small bumps on the road. I felt the vibration throughout the car. First I changed the rear anti-roll bars as one of them had a torn boot. More"shake". The next project was the rear shock absorbers. They are easy to remove. I assume that these are the original factory shock absorbers. There are several Mazda3 and Mazda5 removal and installation videos on YouTube. There was no rust on my car's bolts so no problem. WD40 anyway, just to make it easier. It took me less than 2 hours to replace both shock absorbers. The old passenger side shock absorber seemed fine, but the driver's side was clearly bad. It was more difficult to install on the driver's side. It seems that the new shock for this site is short. I had to back off the top nuts an inch to get the single bottom bolt in and then retighten the top nuts. Maybe a Mazda design flaw? Again, the old driver's side was bad, so only time will tell how long the new KYB will last. Took a sample and WOW what a HUGE difference "shake" was gone. I also bought a KYB shock but ended up using an old original mount.

Pros
  • Seamless heavy-duty mounting tabs and debouncing pin bushings
Cons
  • Periodicity
