Review on πŸ”© Anderson Metals 54056-0806 Brass Tube Fitting, Reducing Union, 3/8 inch x 1/2 inch Flare by Jamal Murph

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Measures 7/8 NOT 15/16!

I bought a 5/8 to 3/8 adapter. What I got was something marked 5/8 out of 3/8. So far so good, right? I have a 5/8 OD flare and another 5/8 OD flare. They are perfect for each other. Edit: I decided to measure the adapter but had to resort to a tape measure (I don't have a caliper). Anderson's metals have a 7/8" thread size on the larger end and this is technically correct after the SAE 45Β° sizing. I went and measured my other 5/8 OD hardware and found that it was 15/16- inch thread. I've never been more confused in my life. I finally discovered that 5/8" flare isn't just 7/8". There is another 5/8" dilator size that refers to 15/16 refers. This is a 15/16 - a newer version used in pipe connections for gas appliances. It's still confusing and extremely poorly documented, to a dangerous degree. I don't think it's fair to give this product one giving bad rating as the flare fitting industry is disorganized it might work for you but remember the size of this 5/8 highlight is 7/8.
