Review on Pop Lock PL1700 Manual Tailgate by John Clarey

I bought this Pop & Lock PL1700C in June 2017 but didn't give it an immediate rating because I've never written product reviews. until now. I immediately noticed that it was quite wobbly, but I installed it anyway as I had an urgent need to stow luggage in a luggage trolley during a trip. It only took 2 weeks until the first problem. First the locking bar fell out of the plastic clip holding it in place. Since I have a fixed cover on the back of my truck, I had to break it or the tail light to open the gate. I chose the rear light as it is cheaper. The bar didn't hold up on its own, but I was able to fix the problem with a 3 cent plastic zip tie. I was on another trip last week and the whole assembly literally fell out of the tailgate when I pulled the handle to open it. This time one of the threaded plastic bolts holding the assembly to the tailgate broke. When I removed it to reinstall the original gate latch, which luckily I kept, I noticed that the plastic bolt holding the lock to the gate latch assembly was also broken. Photos are attached. Bottom line: don't buy this unless you want it to be temporary. I was careful and gentle with it as the plastic is so cheap and flimsy, but it was still falling apart after a year. I gave it one star because Revain forced me to choose a rating.
