The width of the adjustable door is not fixed. On the one hand, it can be a bit annoying. On the other hand, if you leave the gate open most of the time, like I did, you can easily adjust it to the minimum width and it won't stick out and get in the way any more than necessary. I would buy it again if I needed a second gate.
