It's worth splashing some warm soapy water in the groove at the bottom of the door and wiping away any accumulated dirt and grime. Leaving a little bit of soap residue will make it easier to put the fins back on. Incidentally, most of the time, simply loosening a few screws and removing the bottom of the door is enough, making cleaning and replacing the slats even easier without having to bend down and work upside down.
