Review on Portable Wheel Step - Thule Step Up by Jesse Spoja

Revainrating 4 out of 5

not bad but mine was a bit of a hit

Overall I like it because it did what it was supposed to on a couple of winter rides I've had so far. Honda pilot with Thule Boxter in the lead. I bought it so I wouldn't have to get in the car in muddy conditions outside, and also to be higher than the car's natural step offers, in the second row, which in its own right is actually pretty comfortable. As you can see in the picture, the vertical sections supported by the tire end with plastic cups. When trying to fold the item into the working position I had a little problem because the plastic cap followed the path of the moving section (the one you step on). I have however done this by removing the cap, folding the item and putting the cap back on so it doesn't get in my way - I don't use it that often that it's ever a nuisance. Functionally it worked fine - the strap is adjusted. Just right for a tire, my weight (approx. 170 kilos) survived the step without any problems. The step lifts you quite high, but sometimes it's not enough when you need to reach objects from the front of the roof rack. You can only use the rear wheels to mount it if you are using them to tow the roof box so you only have the back of the roof box within reach and in case there are objects in front you have to use other means. I don't think this is a bug, just a matter of usage - I only deducted one star for the build quality issue described above. The product takes up very little space, folds easily, serves its purpose and I would buy it again if I had it.
