Review on 🔧 Dorman 092-018 Twist Drain Solution: Compatible Models & Effective draining solution by Chris Burks

Like most who were intrigued by this product, I was drawn by the apparent ease of use (no tools required) to drain the oil. However, before you buy, you need to consider some aspects of cost and design. I will break them down into pros and cons: Pros - Low cost - Ease of use (no tools needed after installation) - Electrophoresis (electrolysis?) plating on the steel part (plug) Cons - No bottom connector - Notch for closed position is quite small - Combination of steel and aluminum components (bimetal corrosion can occur over time) - A small rubber gasket closes the valve - When closed, the "head" of the valve protrudes >1" (1.5") out of the valve nut. Seat [this measurement does not include shims - No grooved or similar gripping surface on the valve head Also, I have serious questions/concerns about durability and real overall usability given some design issues (including other valve leak feedback) The bottom port is probably the biggest Design problem that all the oil au s those pill-shaped "vent holes" on the sides. o can lead to big problems. The oil is slippery. Even waste oil. Push up and then turn to close the valve. with oil everywhere. Fine. So just wipe it before you close it. Of course, if you want to wait until every drop of oil has drained from your pan. This should only take about 30 minutes. Also, there is still oil in the head. Are you going to use a solvent to remove it while the valve is still open (to avoid fouling next time)? That would also be a problem because you would essentially be spraying solvent on the rubber seal, not to mention some of it could get into the crankcase. The question is, how much time and effort (and additional risks/hassles) does this valve actually save? FULL DISCLOSURE: I did not install this product because of all of the above cons. I will return the one I bought.
