Let me start by saying that this drill press is difficult to use and set up. Second, the bond it makes is so strong that I couldn't get it to work with finished wood. It never came out right. However, I got it working with raw wood that was eventually cut to thickness. No matter how meticulous you are, it will never be perfect if you don't trim it down afterwards. I used it to laminate 1" pieces of raw poplar, then planed down to 5/8" for the boxes. This has created a beautiful seam that even has a beautiful aesthetic when viewed from the end. Also, use plenty of glue in the joint to fill any gaps.
