Not sure if it's real wool, tend to think it's synthetic as there were small bits throughout the yarn that looked like plastic spools looked. It sheds and also tends to come loose and break in some places. I hand felted mine and also washed it once in the washing machine on a wash and rinse cycle. I'm not sure if that helped because even after I've finished my king bed warmer leg cover it's still shedding and looking a little dirty. Best yarn I could find for the price. However, I would like to buy thick cotton thread that is machine washable instead. He's very, very soft, but I think it's too dirty and fragile to use it the way you want it. That'
