Review on πŸš— Mirabox Wireless CarPlay Dongle Adapter: Convert Factory Wired CarPlay to Wireless CarPlay in 2016-2021 Cars by Greg Moore

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It works! As expected, and then some.

Here's my setup: + 2014 Dodge Charger R/T Max with Uconnect 8.4N + Using a C8 Lockpick Pro to give me RCA video/audio inputs for my navigation screen. - It also comes with power connectors that don't need to be connected to a wire harness, so it's very convenient. If you have a 2011-2015 Dodge/Chryco, the C8 Lockpick Pro combined with the Mirabox 5G is a good choice. The same company that makes the C8 also offers a version that offers similar features, but it costs over $230 EXTRA and has fewer features/compatibility. + So Mirabox is connected to C8 via RCA and thus I can stream my phone/iPad/Android devices to my navigation screen. Pros: + It really works and is pretty stable. I've never had a memorable problem since I've been using it (February). + I can connect the HDMI output to a large TV/projector when camping or traveling. That fascinated me. + It comes at such a price that its mistakes are much more forgivable. + I can think of a few uses outside of automotive tuning where this would make sense. + Waze looks better than I expected. Naturally it looks blurry next to my iPhone 7's screen. But you tune in and it's not Mirabox's fault, it's my tune (RCA = 360P max resolution). Cons: + Unable to set WiFi SSID or secure connection. + I can't "cast" things like with Chromecast, I need to screencast/screenshare and view all content that way (although Pandora seems to work pretty well with casting). + No manufacturer information seems to be available. I suspect this is a generic/slightly modified generic Chinese design, remanufactured or possibly updated with functionality and sold under a range of different disguises throughout Revain and beyond. I would like to see what firmware updates can bring to the device and also have some confidence that I have some sort of guarantee. but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Generally at least for my app (I wanted to be able to view Waze on my factory NAV screen). Very versatile and reliable device. I'm thinking about getting a second one for my work backpack. It would be a convenient way to spontaneously start a presentation or share content from my phone.

Pros
  • Loads of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power
