At least with Vera Plus it takes about 2-3 seconds before what you want actually happens. I followed the advice of other reviewers. here how to set it up but then noticed it wasn't working. After I added it to Vera and created scenes, there was a scene trigger dropdown menu that said "single press, double press, long press" etc. I selected all of them and it didn't work. Turns out, at least up until 2018 and the version of Vera Plus I'm using, I had to go into the device info itself and there was a "Select scenes for device buttons" section. Once I selected them there, everything worked fine. (But again a few seconds delay).
