Excellent device but it's not PRO, not IR, not X10

I had to replace a dead block that I've been using for about 6 years. This device arrived as a basic ISY994i, not a PRO, not an IR, not an X10. It's okay, but I had to shell out an additional $30 to upgrade to the PRO module. Other modules are also optional. Attention buyers, ask beforehand. Would have been 5 but -2 stars for a misleading description that cost extra money to fix.

  • Great for outdoor activities

Essential DIY Home Automation Devices

At first I was suspicious of this device. I've used an Insteon hub before and generally it did what I wanted it to do, but after getting this unit my home automation skyrocketed and I realized how clunky my existing system was. After a fairly short learning curve, I found I had MUCH more control and ease with editing devices, creating linked effects, adding variables, and general home automation management.

  • Solid Construction

Big. But not for everyone

The ISY9941 is an extremely reliable and powerful device that deserves respect. But it's not for everyone, just like Ferrari isn't for everyone. In the wrong hands you will crumble and burn. It is best suited for people with a technical background and/or time to learn how to use it. While the system is powerful, it doesn't hold your hand and doesn't offer friendly "wizards" to set it up. This, combined with the fact that the software's implementation is "crude" and quirky, will turn the casual…

Powerful features, reliable X10 performance, great tech support

I use Universal Devices ISY994i instead of ActiveHome Pro CM15A to control X10 devices around my house. (It doesn't include motion detection per se, so I can't rate it.) I'm impressed with the X10's very rich feature set (the main manual, called the Cookbook, is over 660 pages long) and the X10's control reliability. The interface for programming the device is intuitive and functional - the success of work is perceived as instant satisfaction. Also, the technical support from Universal Devices…

Works well, not easy to program

I bought this to replace an Insteon hub and an old PC with HouseLinc software. I have over 100 Insteon devices and have found HouseLinc's limitations getting in the way. And while the Insteon Hub works nicely and simply, it doesn't support some of the timings I need, like: B. Turning off the device 20 minutes after activating the manual switch. I kept the hub running and now the ISY994i is doing the hard work. I found it easy enough to program, but it took me a while to learn how to get it all…

Good device, bad support, nothing for grown-ups.

Excellent device. The Java plugin is slow when making changes and doesn't work on all of my Windows XP machines. I almost returned it because I tried it on a PC first, even after all the recent updates didn't work properly. I thought the product was full of bugs until I tried another computer. Everything worked as expected on the other PC, but it takes time to understand the product. In a large setup like mine with 200+ Insteon and X10 devices it would take 10 hours or more to update all the…

Great home automation device

If you are looking for a great controller, you like the idea of Insteon/Z-Wave and you can understand the login from the screenshot of the program I posted with this review. then you will most likely like this little thing. It will support Insteon and Z-Wave devices out of the box, and if you need more integrations, get a Raspberry Pi and install the Polyglot software and you can work with multiple platforms. fast, it's incredibly reliable, it boots up in about 30 seconds, it uses almost no…

Great controller with terrible java management console

The ISY994i is a great Insteon controller. The programming style provided by the Java-based management console is essentially an event-driven algorithmic state machine (ASM), which is quite suitable for its intended purposes. This style of controller programming is familiar to anyone who has programmed a PLC (using ladder logic) or performed microcode level work on a CPU or other ASM-based controller. If that makes sense to you then you will have no problem customizing the ISY994i to suit your…

Exceeded my expectations - this is not a plug and play device

Bought a year ago. I was starting to switch to this controller from a regular Insteon hub, but was a bit intimidated by the setup. That being said, I wasted a year on an Insteon hub with no flexibility. After putting on my big boy pants and jumping in, I wish I had done it sooner! When I started it was easy. You will need to purchase a hub that plugs into the wall to connect and control the Insteon and X10. X10 is one way communication and I haven't found how to poll/poll X10 devices. I stopped
