Review on ๐Ÿ”ฒ Proto-Pasta Medium Gray Composite Carbon Fiber HTPLA HTP21705-CFM by Djkutt Kent

This can be a very disappointing filament, but it has the potential for AMAZING quality.

I loved this yarn when I first bought it - found the quality amazing, the end result was excellent. However, over time I have found (even after replacing MANY parts on my printer like the nozzle, bowden tube, gears, etc.) that the extruder gear keeps skipping even though there are no print issues. I mean it's very difficult for a printer to actually extrude this filament - it's gritty due to additives (carbon fiber particles I?). In any case, if you want to print like I did (increase nozzle temp to 220/225, use regular 0.4 nozzle, 60 layers) then beware of possible clogs, skipped gears, etc. prepared. I caution to say: I still have a happy print with such an amazing finish (even on a 0.2 resolution level) - it's just annoying to hear the jagged streak and then swap out the nozzle for a new one , after you are done with this filament. TO THE SELLER: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - test this thread and provide a better guide. I mean if it ONLY prints fine with a 0.6 nozzle or can work with a nozzle like 240 degrees at 0.4 then add that to the manual. The manual currently shows 215-225 on a 0.4 injector which is clearly NOT working reliably. ALSO - for God's sake please stop wrapping your VERY EXPENSIVE half buns so poorly. As others have noted, it's poorly packaged in a non-shrink plastic bag on top of a terribly flimsy cardboard spool, with only the plastic sleeve holding the filament in place. Putting all 4 of my reels in ended up with the same quick unwinding once the plastic fell off. Very bad practice for a thread. Their price is much higher, I would have expected a little more care in packaging. I get the max profit - but YES GO.

Pros
  • For exceptional precision, finish and performance choose carbon fiber
