Know when a 3-way unbalanced splitter is best for your needs. I needed a 3-way outdoor splitter for four devices, where two devices next to each other were already using a 2-way splitter. The unbalanced 3-way splitter is two 2-way splitters in one housing. The more splitters used, the more the signal is reduced. I connected two output lines with -7dB attenuation to devices connected directly to the coax cable, and the output line with -3.5dB attenuation went to the coax cable which already had a 2-way splitter on the other end. This type of configuration even renders all devices in my system with -7 dB signal loss. Another reason for an unbalanced splitter is when one of the coax outputs is much longer than the other two.
