Exo Terra Great solution: my truthful feedback

I didn’t choose this substrate right away, I can say I bought it when there was nothing else to buy but it. I use it for snails and as bedding in a chameleon terrarium. What can I say, this is probably the most optimal ratio of pros and cons in one product. Of course, it’s gorgeous for snails, it holds moisture for a long time, mold and all sorts of fungi do not breed, it is possible not to replace the entire substrate completely, but to replace only that part that is contaminated. Chameleon is a little more difficult. If live food suddenly scatters around the terrarium, then it easily digs into this substrate and travels under it as it pleases, especially for zoophobuses and cockroaches. There is also a specific smell during its initial soaking, which personally seems to me not the most pleasant. There is a possibility that the reptile will swallow a small amount of the substrate when feeding. It would seem that these are all significant disadvantages against the background of any artificial surfaces, but there are also pluses. Firstly, the coconut substrate helps to maintain optimal humidity in the terrarium, and secondly, despite the constant humidity, as I said, fungi and mold do not develop, which are a much greater danger to the reptile than the sometimes eaten substrate. Therefore, I consider coconut substrate to be the best solution in choosing a substrate for amphibians and reptiles.

Pros
  • No fungus and mold, the ability to clean partially
Cons
  • Smell
