I was making microwave popcorn in brown lunch bags when I saw this item. I chose this one because other similar items didn't have protective plastic around the bottom and I just knew it wouldn't last long if I didn't have bottom protection. I have only used this item twice but overall I am satisfied. When I made popcorn in a lunch bag I used the 1/4 cup measure and I think I'll check it out at or near it next time. I'm not sure how much fits in the top of the filler cap. When I used the dipstick, I only got half a "can" of popcorn. Enough for a portion of appetizers. There was not much difference in the number of unpopped beans between this bag and the lunch bag. If anything, it could have ejected a few more cores. But again I used a different measure for the lunch bag. I set the microwave for 3 minutes and then listened as there were a few seconds between pops to know it was done. It's harder to hear popcorn in this popcorn than in a lunch bag, so don't overdo it. I used the oil version and had no problems. I could throw away the lunch bags and I had to clean them, but sometimes the lunch bags broke when the grains popped and then I had to clean the popcorn and grains from the microwave.
