Review on APEC Water Systems Replacement ASO by Vincent Burton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Relatively quick solution to the problem with the reverse osmosis system

So far so good. I have a GE Smartwater reverse osmosis system and after changing the filters and membrane I noticed that the pressure of the water coming out of the reverse osmosis faucet was strong for the first 5 seconds, then quickly decreased and continued to decrease until it almost came out. Then after I turned the faucet back off, you could hear the drain line running for 20-30 minutes. After some initial research I removed the check valve and was able to blow air (with my mouth) both ways indicating that it no longer works as it is only supposed to let air in one direction. So I ordered and replaced this part but the problem remained. So I bought this ASO valve and replaced my old one. My old one had threaded fittings, but I'm a big fan of those quick disconnects. The old ASO valve was a bit difficult to get to as the pair of hoses attached to it were very short. I had to open one of them to move the old ASO valve down so I could reach it. If you have easy access to the ASO valve, the replacement will likely take less than 5 minutes. Anyway, I mapped "IN" and "OUT" to the old one and replaced them. Gathered everything back together, turned on the water again and checked for leaks. There are no leaks! Stage 1 complete! Now check the water pressure from the reverse osmosis tap. Strong and constant pressure! And after that, the water does not flow through the drain pipe. Success. To celebrate, he poured himself a tall glass of water. OK, not really. I poured myself a bourbon, but I could pour myself a tall glass of water if I wanted to. :)

Pros
  • water filter and softener
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
