Works great but doesn't last long

I currently have a second Harmony 880. The features are great and while it works it's excellent. It does everything I bought it for and is very adaptable as your TV system components change over time. However, I have found that the devices do not last as long as they should. With normal use in a household with minors, or maybe a household with multiple users who don't handle the Harmony with kid gloves, you'll notice this after a while (maybe 6 months, not long for such an expensive product). , one or more buttons on the Harmony 880 become unresponsive. For example, with my current 880, I can turn the TV volume down, but not higher. The top end of the volume switch (louder) no longer works. This means that in order to fully adjust the volume, I have to pull the Sharp remote back out of the drawer. The button that allows me to navigate horizontally through the on-screen user interface and schedule recordings also no longer moves to the right: I have to pull out the dash cam remote to do this. This means that the Harmony 880 is not doing its job. : to replace my whole variety of remote controls. i think i know why The plastic body of the Harmony 880 isn't very rigid: it compresses well with normal hand pressure. Over time, as hands press against the device, its internal mechanisms begin to deform, and eventually something inside loses contact with something else. I have never had this problem with any other remote control. The first Harmony 880 I had I actually took apart myself and put some filler in it to get the contacts touching again so it charges properly. . After a few months my home repair failed and I thought I was out of luck with a good unit and bought another one. Unless someone tells me that the latter are much more resilient to such problems, my second is likely to be my last. Finally, about $300 and 3 years later, I'm back to using multiple remotes (including the 880, which controls still work fine) to get my TV to work properly.
