Silicone spatulas are a huge step up from the rubber spatulas I grew up with in the 1950's. However, many of them still retain the same physical form as the old Rubbermaid products my parents and grandparents used. This one-piece spatula eliminates the need for a separate handle and the hassle of getting mold into the rubber hole where the handle is inserted. It also eliminates the ridges around the handle that always held food in place and made it impossible to pull all of the food from the spatula into the bowl where you want it. The spatula does a great job of getting food out of the bowl and allows you to scrape into most corners. It's not quite perfect as far as the bottom of the can is concerned, but it's kind of a specialty that calls for a slightly different shape. I have a black spatula and love the fact that I don't have to loop anymore. about getting something dirty from using it with tomato sauce or curry. The main thing is that when I smell it after washing, it usually smells clean, at most slightly like food, but only if the food was really spicy. Any residual odors usually disappear completely with the next use. I love this spatula.
