I bought this for the pecans I harvest from my walnut tree. I put a pecan in, twist the knob until the knob is at about a 75 degree angle, and then I get a very good crack almost every time. Much better than using a hammer or stepping on pecans to break them open. There are several disadvantages. It's light enough that it can wobble if you don't press it at the right angle. The lever is a bit short so you need to use enough force to crack the pecans. Also, the lever can open too far for the hinge, in which case you have to push the hinge to close the lever again.
