Badly shaped hardware

Badly shaped. I thought there was a small nick on some of the threads that I could feel with my finger when it arrived, but it turned out to be a small hairline tear in the stitching through the threads. No, I didn't overtighten. The tear was there upon arrival. I know brass can be stripped and I haven't overdone it. You don't feel like returning it because the high costs involved a lot of time and frustration. The leak was tiny and small drops seemed to flow from the filaments. Disassembled the whole thing (worst side so had to disconnect other connections) to repackage and put everything back together. Another little leak, so slow. Finally he took out a jeweler's scope and clearly saw that the scratch was in fact a small fracture. It was for hooking up a chilled water + expansion tank to a new water heater and I ordered through Prime as the local HD just had freaking bites of sharks. Luckily, after the extra hours trying to find hot water, I found a local hardware store with quality brass fittings.
