It is very capable of making very sharp knives. It takes some practice and clarification. To be honest I haven't watched the DVD but I did watch a few YouTube videos. At first there were doubts, then I realized that I was trying to sharpen at a different angle than with a knife. As the corner took shape, I started to see results. Excellent! Get an extra fine stone and sling and you get incredible sharpening ability for a lot less money than some others. It's also a kind of trainer, preparing you to try freehand sharpening as it gives you the ability to maintain a constant blade angle under your control. Nice little product!
