I bought these to provide traction on a DIY bare wood pet window perch with steps.They were easy to install and stay in place well enough for my use. I think they're probably meant to be used on finished wood.would adhere better.but they don't slide around on the bare wood unless I'm deliberately checking them (testing them on painted wood shows greater adherence). The dog doesn't dislodge them going up/down.The treads are soft and comfortable to bare feet. I would use these in a heartbeat on painted/shellacked stairs meant for human use.
